Hamas Proposes Ceasefire, Netanyahu Responds with Military Action

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a ceasefire offer from the Hamas militant group, opting instead to continue military operations in the Gaza Strip. The conflict between Israel and Hamas has entered its second week, with no end in sight.

Hamas' Ceasefire Proposal

On Tuesday, Hamas proposed a ceasefire that would have halted rocket fire into Israel in exchange for Israel stopping its airstrikes on Gaza. The proposal was met with skepticism from Israeli officials, who accused Hamas of attempting to manipulate international opinion.

Israel's Military Response

Netanyahu rejected Hamas' offer, vowing to continue military operations until Hamas is "dealt a significant blow." Israel has launched airstrikes on Hamas targets, including military infrastructure and residential areas. The Israeli military has also deployed ground troops along the border with Gaza.

Ongoing Violence and Casualties

The conflict has been deadly on both sides. As of Tuesday, at least 220 Palestinians have been killed in the fighting, including women and children. Twelve Israelis have also been killed, including a five-year-old boy.

International Concern

The United States, the European Union, and other international powers have expressed concern over the escalating violence. They have called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to peace negotiations. However, Netanyahu has dismissed these appeals, saying that Israel will continue its operations until Hamas is defeated.
